Important Conversations You Need To Have With Your Animals - Rescue Animals

This is an article on a speech I gave at the Rimbey Health Expo last April and I thought it would be really important for you to know about it. Just like you want to know what’s going on, our rescue animals want to know what’s going on too. They’re part of the family. And, they need to know what’s happening in the family and in the household. This is the first of 3 important conversations and why you need to have them.

Rescue Animals And Integrating Them Into Your Home

One thing I’ve come to understand with rescue animals is they all have abandonment issues. And here are some behavioral problems that can show up: being scared, not trusting anyone, extreme separation anxiety, and destroying your house when you leave. Rescue animals really need to understand why they are with you. It’s so important for them to know what your plans are for them. Are they in a forever home? If they are, let them know this. Will you be coming back for them when you leave your house? Tell them how much they mean to you.

Talking to your animals and reassuring them can greatly reduce their anxiety. If this is a foster home, explain to the animal what it entails. That this is only temporary until a new home is found for them. Or will they be going back to the kennel after a certain period of time? They need to know what is going to happen. And most importantly, that it’s not their fault when they leave your home. Stay tuned for my upcoming newsletter where I will discuss the 2nd Important conversation you need to have with your animals.
